Interpreting dreams is a hit and miss situation. Sometimes they are exact and sometimes it is a "feeling" or a "theme" that rings true.

You're exactly right, apple. It isn't, as some would say, an "exact science". You gave me a thought, though: This thread was originally supposed to be a guide to assorted symbols, not a discussion thread. But, now that we have a board for Dream Interpretation, I think that it should also be in there. Thank you for indirectly giving me that idea!

To be honest, I thought I had updated this already (time has gotten away from me as you can probably tell because of that thing we call "life" )

Personally, after writing and recording my dreams in a diary for many years, they are often quite easy to interpret. However, I have a problem when predictive dreams pop up and they are never obviously predictive. I wake thinking 'what the heck was that all about' and it's only after the event occurs that the penny drops. Unfortunately they are nearly always about the death of someone close (via some kind of symbolism in the dream), so it's probably a good thing I don't know at the time or I would be worried sick. Not a great fan of dreams these days, never have a night without vivid dreams and it would be good to go to sleep and have a peaceful night

Well, if you are just getting into it, evolutionaryseeker, like many people are now, it can and is challenging. Take me, for example. I have been attempting a Dream Interpreter Certification program for a few years now, and I'm still not finished. Granted, life got into my way, but it's not easy sometimes to memorize every single one of the different interpretations for the symbols. That's partly what I struggle with. Milk, for example: how spilled milk means that your problems could be spilling over. Or, for example, how water can represent emotion. I also have a problem when precognitive dreams come into play. They aren't very easy to distinguish from other dreams if you do not know what you are looking for. If you know what you are looking for, then they are. Same with visitation dreams. I have had a few of those, and they are held close to my heart, but if I didn't know the little nuances of one, I wouldn't be able to tell that that's what it was. It's very common that the realization of a prophetic dream only happens after the particular event has occurred, so don't beat yourself up about that one. You're in the norm there. You could always ask your Dream Guides and your other Spirit Guides for an uninterrupted night of sleep without a vivid dream, if that's is what you prefer.

As I wrote before Alan, I kept a dream diary for years and have quite a good handle on most of my dreams, they really are an amazing tool for understanding your life's experiences, past and present, but I don't think the predictive ones fit the mould, as they present in different forms depending on what's involved.
As for a dream free night - in my dreams lol.

My apologies, evolutionaryseeker . I guess I had missed that. I agree that dreams are an amazing tool for understanding your life's experiences. I guess I'm not understanding how predictive ones don't fit the mould, as you say. I consider them as just one "category" of dreams that a person can have in their dream state; not that they are a whole thing altogether. Or am I misunderstanding you? I apologize if I am. I do agree that they are different depending on what's involved, but they are the same basic thing: predictive dreams tell the future (which is where the term deja vu would come in.) I wish you a night of positive dreams, then.
