In this thread, you can talk about inspirational quotes from fictional characters.I have watched the Nickelodeon television show Avatar: The Last Airbender from the time that it started on Nick to the time that it was taken off the air. One of the characters whom has changed my life is Zako's uncle, General Iroh. He always seemed to be the one who had reason. One of the quotes that finds its way into my mind is: General Iroh
The above quote is one that always sticks with me because everyone goes through times when they feel as if they are not going anywhere in life and don't know who they are. That feeling is partly because they haven't figured out who they are and what they want from life yet. They know what their parents/family want and/or expect of them, but they don't know what they truly want. You are not here to please others, you are put on this Earth to better yourself and make yourself happy. Figure out what you want to do and what makes you happy and you are all set, in a nutshell, because if you enter into a 'career' that you don't like and/or aren't passionate about, you won't get any work done and you'll feel as if you're suffering. You don't want that to happen to you; you want to make sure that you are working at something that is fulfilling to you. What are some quotes from fictional characters that have inspired you, and why?

Kahlan Amnell from the Sword of Truth series has always offered me inspiration. She is a strong woman who knows what she wants and what is important. She has a lot of respect (even if some of it is fear based) from others but is also humble and kind. I am pretty sure that it was her in a scene with Richard that gave me the words I live by for my archery (and I also apply it to other areas). [paraphrased] Focus on the target. Will it to you and let it take up all of your vision. When it fills your heart, then you will never miss. [/paraphrased] In other words - Believe in yourself and focus on what you want.

That can be applied to other areas, not just a book. Even in magick, if you believe, it'll come (that's my belief, anyway). If you have enough will power and drive, anything is possible.

I love Kahlan and Richard! Their story is filled with such power, inspiration, and hope. Unfortunately, I'm not thinking of any particular quote off the top of my head from these books right now.
Instead, I cannot help but think of the quote from the Disney Gargoyles series. Robbins, a blind writer, had told Hudson, the old gargoyle, the about the value of books and reading. Here is the quote that was spoken at the end of the episode that just spoke to me and my own love and value for books.
"The written word is all that stands between memory and oblivion. Without books as our anchors, we are cast adrift; neither teaching, nor learning. They are windows on the past, mirrors on the present, and prisms reflecting all possible futures. Books are lighthouses erected in the dark sea of time."

Next thing we know, they will be earning from robots and not from teachers!

Sure there are e-readers and while I do own one, I still much prefer the feel of a real book. But in the context we are speaking, any book - paper or electronic - is much better than no book. Reading and writing are assets I hope will never fade away but fear will.

I fear the day that they do, though, because we're only two people. We can't halt the 'evolution' of mankind.

Yup. Progress. It continues on until something gives and then we're back at the beginning.

Yup. Progress. It continues on until something gives and then we're back at the beginning. No matter how much we want to. That's the problem with mankind - we want and want. Most people don't see the problems that are going on here. I don't really think that that isn't not an accurate statement. Humanity really amazes me sometimes.
